It's Global Passport Month! Our little travelers are learning all about the world around them and how new places may differ from their homes. This week we have learned about suitcases, cameras, airplanes and boats, maps and globes, and currency!
Today we are learning about currency, specifically gold and all it is used for. This sensory bin is great for math skills and writing. Have your child pan for the gold, and then count how many pieces they find! When they are done, they can practice writing the letter "G" in the sand.
For this bin, you will need:
A shallow bin
Sand
Small Rocks
Paint
Paintbrushes
Scoops
Strainers
First you will need to find or purchase small, smooth rocks. We used acrylic gold paint (for a more permanent effect) to paint the rocks gold. You can do this during your prep or make it a fun additional activity for you and your child to enjoy together. Next, fill the bin with sand and place the gold in the sand. You can bury some too! Then, place some scoops, strainers, and other tools in the bin. Have your child use the strainer to pan out their gold, and at the end they can count how many pieces they find. Then, have your child use a paintbrush, or their finger, to draw the letter G in the sand!
