Leap Year Time Capsule

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, we will be celebrating Leap Day! We have a Leap Day every 4 years, when the year has 366 days instead of 365. Many people have Leap Year traditions, and this one happens to be one of our favorites.

The Leap Year time capsule! You and your children can each make their own time capsule, or you can all put your items into one big one. A time capsule is a container storing a selection of objects chosen as being typical in the present time, buried for discovery in the future. If you plan to bury your time capsules in dirt, I suggest a sealed container that would better keep water and bugs out. If you plan to simply hide the capsule or put it away somewhere indoors, a shoe box will work just fine.

The time capsule should contain some of you or child's favorite objects or toys, but ones that you are okay with parting with for a few years. You can also add a note to yourself or whoever else may discover it and be sure to date it! Many people also choose to add pictures, coins, clothing, or even books. I would, however, refrain from adding any snacks or drinks!
